Khrushchev-era buildings emerged in the mid-1950s. You can find them almost in every corner of Kyiv — in the centre of Darnytsia (Sotsmistechko), on Vidradnyi Avenue, Nyvky, Voskresenka, Syrets, in the area of Polytechnical Institute, Vitriani Hory, Solomianka, Borshchahivka and Kurenivka.
These are 5-storey houses with three-four apartments per storey. If available, an engineering storey has a minimum area. Roofs are connected with the coverage of the fifth storey.
The Khrushchev-era buildings have brick and panel walls and armoured concrete floors. As the buildings were built very quickly, the façade decorations were not used. The buildings have a robust look.
The buildings consist of one- to three-room apartments. The majority of rooms (95%) are communicating rooms.
Ceilings have average height — from 2.5 to 2.55 m.
Floors are covered with parquet and sometimes with parquet planks.
Kitchens were equipped with gas cookers and sometimes with gas cookers.
Houses are not equipped with rubbish chutes and elevators.
Additional data: The area of the apartments is very small; restrooms were combined with bathrooms.
